PvP and PvE: the two game modes
The two ways to play Virus Battle: real-time duels against other players and the solo zone-by-zone adventure. What each one rewards.
Virus Battle has two main ways to play. You can jump between them whenever you like, and both grow your collection. Here's the rundown.
⚔️ PvP — real-time duels
The competitive heart of the game: 1 versus 1 against another player. Pick a virus, join the queue, and seconds later you're fighting.
Nobody in the queue? You won't wait around — after a few seconds we match you with an opponent so you can play right away.
What you earn:
- 🏆 Trophies — They go up when you win, down when you lose. They're your ranking, and the system scales the reward by the gap with your opponent: beating someone stronger pays more.
- 🪙 Coins — To open eggs, upgrade viruses and change attacks.
- ✨ Species XP — The virus you use levels up its species (you even gain a little when you lose!).
PvP is where you prove your strategy. Read your opponent, count their cooldowns, and close out the match at just the right moment.
🗺️ PvE — Adventure Mode
The solo path: a map of 7 zones with dozens of chained levels and a boss at the end of each zone. To enter the next zone, you first have to defeat its boss.
Unlike PvP, here you play with a team of 3 viruses. Your viruses face the enemies one at a time; when the first falls, the next steps in. If all three fall, you lose the level.
What you earn:
- 🪙 Guaranteed coins on every level.
- 🥚 Drops — Some levels hand out eggs, capsules or emotes.
- ✨ Species XP for your whole team, with an extra bonus for the MVP virus that survives with the most HP.
- 🔁 Daily replay — You can replay an already-cleared level once a day for a reduced version of its reward. Perfect for farming coins and XP.
PvE is ideal for leveling your species at your own pace, without the pressure of the competitive clock.
Which should I play?
Both. PvE helps you build and strengthen your collection at your leisure; PvP is where you put what you built to the test. And since leveling up a species benefits all your viruses of that type, every match — win or lose — leaves you a little stronger for the next one.
See you on the battlefield! 🦠
